Rotary Highway Clean-up--- (spring & fall) ---started in 1992
Yocom Park----helped the Johnson Foundation install the steel fence--1994
Art in the Park-----Lucas County Arts Council/Rotary Club of Chariton
Provided a meal which consisted of sweet corn, Pella belogna & watermelon at
Yocom Park for the public for a challenge grant for the Arts Council of $700 in
1995
Movie Theatre----helped install seats—1996
The Rotary Club of Chariton received a District 6000 Community Service Award for Movie Theater Fundraising (raising over $10,000 in a year in 1997)
Constitution Park---helped lay the brick memorial walkway—1998-99
Gazebo-----we gave $12,000 for the Gazebo project through various fundraisers
Including a Las Vegas raffle night----Rotarians also helped with the construction
Of the Gazebo in the year 2000
Literacy Program----started in –2001----easels were made by Wayne Fletcher,
Tim Hamer & Jim Fuller--take home books were given in 2003—in 2004 a
District Simplified Grant was received for $1,500 and the Chariton Club gave
$475.25 for 25 Read to Me books & bags for the Kindergarten—90 books on
Different professions for the 2nd grade & 90 books on how math is used in the real
World for 3rd grade--Rotarians read weekly to the 1st graders at Columbus School.
Dictionary Project –2005—we gave 110 dictionaries to 3rd graders at Van Allen.
Disc Golf at NW Park—Community Assistance Grant-- $1,000 in 2002---
Completed in 2004---Signs were made by Tracy Hall & Disc Golf installed by Rotary members & their families.
Girls Softball Complex at NW Park---committed $25,000 over 3 yrs-2002-05-we
Received a District Simplified Grant for $3,500 for concession equipment in 2004 and the Coons Foundation
Donation of $2,500 in 2004—we received a District Simplified Grant for $3,750 in 2005 for the fencing of two extra fields
2006—Girls Softball Complex –Donation of $5,250 by anonymous Rotarians
International Projects
Polio Plus----started in 1985----Chariton Club raised $24,000 in 1989--- We
Pledged $8,250 over 3 yrs. in 2002-05 (we contributed $9,019) Marion Coons &
The Coons Foundation have given $1,500 annually to Polio Plus through the Chariton Club
Xicotepec, Mexico---gave $300 for classrooms---2003
Tsunami Disaster---contributed $357---2005

Iraq with hole in his heart--$250 for heart surgery---2005
Xicotepec, Mexico—Rotary Club of Chariton, Decatur County, Corydon &
Osceola—purchased new ambulance using District Designated Funds (DDF) which was matched by a Rotary International Matching Grant--2006
The Lucas County Health Center contributed hospital beds, medical equipment &
Supplies through the Rotary Club of Chariton to FAMSCO (Fire & Medical
Supply Company) in the late 1980’s to be shipped to developing countries
Rural Health Care Advantage donated medical equipment & supplies through the
Rotary Club of Chariton to FAMSCO in 2006
